Alchemy. The alchemist needs space and the proper tools to perform their arts. This means a private room as well as alchemical gear. The room can be one found at an inn, with 1 hour of set up time, or it can be a permanent structure dedicated to the alchemist’s tools.
The alchemical gear costs 10thaler and requires careful packing to travel with. It is unwise to brew potions in the wilderness, not only because of the time it takes to unpack, brew, and then pack back up, but also because from the wilds of Davokar beasts are prone to emerge at a moment’s notice and destroy not only the elixirs in progress, but also the alchemical gear.
An alchemist can spend their downtime searching for ingredients. Only alchemists can search for ingredients- the various plants and animals that are used are easily confused or mishandled by those untrained. A player with bushcraft may assist an already trained alchemist in their search and provide an additional 25orteg worth of ingredients with a cunning check, but would have difficulty searching on their own. A player with alchemy gains no bonus from having bushcraft.
The listed value of the ingredients found is not their sale price. They can only be used when brewing elixirs.
While in a town with a local alchemist, you can create potions at cost by purchasing the necessary ingredients, rather than searching for them.
When creating elixirs, roll a cunning check for each elixir, with a cumulative -1 for each additional elixir attempted. Upon failing their cunning check, all elixir crafting must cease for the day. Something has befouled the equipment and you must spend the remaining time cleaning your equipment. All ingredients used to brew the failed potion are lost in the process.
Novice. The novice alchemist has, one way or another, obtained a small book of alchemical recipes as well as the needed alchemical gear. If their book or gear were to be destroyed or go missing, they will need to purchase a replacement. The novice alchemist can find 25orteg of ingredients while searching in Davokar with a cunning check, and can create up to 2thaler of up to novice elixirs at half the purchase price in a single day.
Adept. The adept alchemist can find 5shillings of ingredients while searching in Davokar with a cunning check, and can create up to 4thaler of up to adept elixirs at half the purchase price in a single day.
Master. The master alchemist can find 1thaler of ingredients while searching in Davokar with a cunning check, and can create up to 8thaler of up to master elixirs at half the purchase price in a single day.
